About headshots v portraits In the industry, a headshot typically refers to the 8 x 10 print, the standard 'glamour photo' in every model/actor's portfolio.  Previously all black and white, headshots are increasingly done in color.  Headshots are also used in smaller prints, e.g. 5.5 x 8.5, mainly for marketing purposes. These Zedcards or Comps (short for composites) may contain one or more images and the models' contact information. Not everyone needs a headshot or comp, but I think portraits could benefit from using the flattering techniques used in model shoots. Professional flash lighting gives one absolute control of where light goes, and we use them when we need to come up with a certain look. In my opinion, the best portraits are those unhurried, uncomposed photos taken in natural light and surroundings.  Sometime in one's life, one ought to have a nice portrait taken.
